Frances Lee's Innovative Fundraising
Hi, I am Frances Lee from UK. I have embarked on a creative and fun exercise, Public Toilet Marathon to create awareness on toilets and to mobilize funds for school sanitation program for 13 rural schools in Southern India.
 In May 2008, I drove from one end of Britain (starting at Lands End in the south) to the other (finishing at John o'Groats in the north). It’s well over 1000 miles which is about 2000 km. I have visited 26 public toilets along the way! I've chosen 26 because 26 miles= a marathon, and there are 26 letters in the English alphabet. I have visited one place for each letter, making it a toilet marathon!!
I urged my friends, family, colleagues, people on my marathon route and everyone else who read about this to support me in my endeavour to provide toilet facilities in schools thus creating an enabling and conducive learning environment. Children are the most vulnerable victims of inadequate sanitation. 5,000 children die everyday from diarrhea alone. Proper sanitation is the cheapest preventable medicine.
With as little as £5 you can help make a lifetime impact in the lives of the young growing children. With your contribution and support I will be able to successfully complete the challenge I have set forth and be able to reach out to the children. Thank You and I hope my initiative will inspire many others to stand up and take action to deliver sanitation to 2.6 billion toilet-less.
